Tourism Australia - YouTube

Visual Obsession was contracted by international company Mango Communications, to produce a Video News Release (VNR), online video and photo gallery for Tourism Australia for the New7Wonders of Nature campaign. Visual Obsession was involved very closely in the creative process, they helped bring Mango Communication's vision to life. To encourage people to vote for the Great Barrier Reef to be one of the New7Wonders of Nature, the video shows snorkelers swimming up to a temporary voting both on the Vlasoff sand cay (“the most remote voting booth in the world”) and voting on an iPad (lucky to have internet access). Andy Ridley (Co Founder of Earth Hour) and Ben Southall (“Best Job in the World” winner) were featured. We had an overwhelming response to the finished product. Once uploaded, the photo album on the Tourism Australia Facebook received over 11,800 likes within a few days (beating their previous record of 8,000), the You Tube video topped over 5,000 views, plus the story was broadcasted on Channel 7, Channel 10, WIN TV, ABC and written about in local newspapers. The job was delivered successfully in the tight deadline - Visual Obsession had little under 12 hours to take a team of 27 out to the reef for filming, filming aerial shots in a helicopter, flying back to the edit suite, editing the footage and photos, uploading to You Tube, Facebook, Twitter and blog at the end of the day. An assessment of the job revealed that Tourism Australia and Mango Communications were extremely pleased with the successful outcome of the project .

Online Marketing Strategy Development

Few would argue that in this day and age it is critical for every organisation to have a visible presence on the internet. Within the last few years however, the concept of visibility has changed. Where it was previously acceptable to simply upload a website with information, and hope that people would go and find it; it has become the responsibility of the organisation to go and find the audience. That is where online marketing comes in. How do we mix today's online technologies to achieve maximum engagement with our audience? The first and most critical step is to come up with a strategy. There is no point signing up to a bunch of social media services, and then letting each profile fall into dilapidation and neglect. Visual Obsession has developed Online Marketing Strategies for numerous businesses and government departments. We can help you determine which social media services suit your business goals; how to best use your ongoing marketing budget for maximum engagement; how to measure, assess, and react to, the activity of your audience, how and when to run campaigns for maximum impact; how to minimise risk and deal with online crises; and how to implement an ongoing strategy to ensure your online presence doesn't fall into neglect.

Why Not Tours

Why Not Tours is a recently established online travel planner. Their aim is to simplify the organisation of group travel, utilizing an innovative system which allows customers to plan, manage and pay for all types of social group travel within Australia. Visual Obsession, as a Cairns website developer and social media agency, was contracted by Why Not Tours to develop a fully integrated website including the ability to book and organize tours online. Using the Why Not Tours website, customers are able to enquire about a booking, have the ability to add members to their tour and can also purchase customized merchandise packs to include on their trip. In addition to this functionality, Social Media is set to play a major role in the website features. Tour bookings are made social by including the ability to invite friends to join them on their tour: via Facebook, SMS or email and includes group chat functionality. The website also interacts with a mobile phone online communication application which Visual Obsession has developed for both iPhone and Android platforms.

Paid Advertising

Why have traditional advertising methods (Yellow Pages, Billboards, etc.) taken a nosedive, while online advertising is increasing exponentially? There are four main areas where online advertising shines.

1) Targeting: If you are advertising on sites like Google, you can target your ads by the words that people are searching for. Keyword-targeting makes your ads become incredibly relevant, as you are targeting people not just by what they’re interested in, but when they’re interested in it. When you are advertising on social sites such as Facebook, you can target by demographic and interests for incredibly efficient campaigns. Why spend money advertising to people that don't match your audience profile?

2) Measurement: Instead of crossing your fingers and hoping that an advertising campaign was successful, online advertising gives you detailed real-time statistics about click-through rate, conversions, purchases, and even precise ROI figures for online shops, etc. By changing your ads in real-time and watching the corresponding change in results, you can optimise your campaign's performance.

3) Referrals: Advertising on Social Media sites like Facebook has one huge advantage. When viewing your ad, a Facebook user sees a list of all their friends who already "Like" that page. This is effectively a social recommendations system. Statistics show a 68% lift in engagement with ads that have social recommendations. By reaching out to friends-of-friends your campaign can take on a life of its own.

4) Value: Most online advertising works on a Pay-Per-Click (PPC) method. That means, if nobody clicks your ad, you don’t pay a cent. You only pay for potential leads you get. This is far more efficient than traditional advertising methods that require a monthly or yearly fee regardless of your ROI.

Mobile Web

In February of 2010, there were 4.6 billion mobile phone subscribers, a number that is estimated to grow significantly. This makes it the most ubiquitous electronic device in the world. With the increasing trend of smartphones, people are rapidly coming to expect to be able to do everything they need to do while on the move. It is critical to ensure your website can be viewed well on a mobile phone, but beyond that, more people are starting to see the value in creating a customised application. An application designed for a smartphone can increase your reach and loyalty. Depending on your services and goals, it might be worthwhile building a mobile-based game. Or perhaps an app that allows browsing of your online store with ease. Whatever it is, decide which platforms you need to target, and work this in with the rest of your marketing strategy. Visual Obsession can build apps for iPhone, iPad and Android. Contact us for a free quote.

Amazon Cloud Tour

Chris and Kevin attended Navigate the cloud with Amazon Web Services in Melbourne. Visual Obsession have been storing data on Amazon cloud over the past four years and we needed to better understand how to leverage the cloud to drive business growth and higher efficiency at a lower cost.

The potential for all businesses, large and small, to lift efficiency with the use of sophisticated and scalable applications on the cloud platform is huge. "As companies begin to understand the benefits that cloud computing brings, they look for hybrid solutions that allow them to use their existing resources for routing work while pushing extra work to the cloud. It's like bringing in temporary workers to handle the holiday rush" (Amazon).

Uploaded files of all types such as music, still images, and videos undergo a number of processing steps such as scanning for viruses and other forms of malware. They can be transcoded, watermarked, checked for duplication and scaled. Once this process is finalised the finished files are stored and made available for online viewing. An on demand basis means you only pay for actual usage with all things taken into consideration, such as bandwidth, CPU Power, and timeframe.

Companies with mission critical dependence on information technology resources need to have a plan in place to deal with cyclones, floods, earthquakes etc. The cloud offers continuity without wasting capital on hardware, that will never be put to use under normal circumstances, and stands ready to be active at a moments notice.
