Cairns Base Hospital

The campaign is designed to raise awareness of Hepatitis C, a blood-transmitted liver disease. Two posters were developed that encourage people to get tested. One is targeted at the aboriginal population with red, black & yellow, and a mangrove tree (symbolic of good health through nourishment, strength and community). The other is targeted at Torres Strait Islanders with shades of blue & green, and a Conch Shell (represents calling people together for healing). Connection with pregnant mothers was achieved through a booklet titled “Hep C: My Baby & Me”. Another part of the promotion is a booklet that lists the various healthcare facilities in the extended region.

Family Planning

With HIV awareness campaigns being launched all over the world, we looked on the internet to examine what was "out there", we wanted to be sure that the design that we developed would be effective and at the same time different to previous advertising campaigns in Australia and Various other countries. A common denominator with previous campaigns was the use of the "HIV Shock Value" technique, (Grim Reapers, Scorpions and spiders in beds etc). This scare tactic could not be used in this campaign due to the fact that it was important that we do not offend PNG citizens. As a result we decided that we would highlight the feelings associated with "Gambling" and the stakes being VERY high when it comes to HIV in PNG.
