Austropex Seminar

I recently gave a presentation on Trust Based Marketing at the Austropex Seminar. As a social media marketing agency in Cairns, we have seen social media efforts fail so many times when they are not grounded in a solid marketing strategy or focused on a clear goal. At Visual Obsession we are committed to offering strategies and solutions, not just individual products and services.

I was speaking specifically as a part of the Tourism Session presented by Marcus Brady from Tourism Tropical North Queensland, and Leslie Ring from Enterprise Connect. Also delivering fantastic presentations were Max Shepherd from Skyrail, and Ben Woodward from The CAPTA Group.

The presentation went well, with many attendants expressing interest in learning more. This video is a quick snapshot. If you would like to find out more about social media marketing, or would like us to come and present at your event, feel free to get in contact with me.

Case Study: The Imperfect Mum

Visual Obsession - The Imperfect Mum Blog Design and DevelopmentKristy Vallely’s blog The Imperfect Mum is about a mother of three sharing her personal experiences: the good and the bad. Kristy, the daughter of Kevin Austin (Director of Visual Obsession) wanted to start a Facebook page and Blog, but had no idea where to start… So she went to her dad with the Imperfect Mum plan. Kevin deployed the Visual Obsession team to design an Online Marketing and Social Media strategy to help get her story out to other mothers. This included utilising a Facebook Page with a custom landing page, designing and optimising her presence on Twitter and designing and developing a versatile blog.

The campaign was an instant success, with the blog attracting over 5,244 page views and the website receiving 2610+ visits in the first 15 days.

The challenge was set: Visual Obsession had to develop an easy to operate blog that was visually engaging, appealing to its target audience and easily accessible using social media to spread her message.

What is an RSS feed, and what do I do with it?

RSS Feeds are a great way to keep up to date with your favourite news sites!

We have had quite a few people ask about the little orange RSS icon on this blog, so here is a quick overview of RSS feeds and what to do with them.

First of all, RSS stands for RDF (Resource Description Framework) Site Summary, which may sound very technical, but is much simpler than it sounds. Basically, RSS just grabs the latest content from a website without any of the design stuff and presents it in a very simple reading format. Just the content.

Google+

Google+ is the newest member of the social network, and is already extremely popular. The future of Search is changing. And we are pleased to see it. Google launched Google+ on June 28, 2011 with an invite-only beta. Of course there was immediate hype of epic proportions as people beat down the doors trying to get an invite to the latest “social network”. Many have been billing this as a “Facebook Killer”, or opining that Google is out of it’s league, just adding one more option to an already over-crowded marketplace of social networks clamouring for our daily attention. This voice has been fuelled by people who stand to lose a lot from Google’s presence.

Writing for the Web

Online Marketing is an essential part of any professional business today. Without a company website your business simply doesn’t exist in the world of the internet. The alarming thing is that this can also be true for websites that are poorly constructed and use weak content. It’s important to understand that internet users are demanding. They know what they like and dislike. If your website doesn’t meet their standards then they will simply find a website that does.
